I Call That Herd Immunity
Like last week’s essay on Dr. Marty Makary and his belief in mad scientists, biowarfare, Nazi war criminal doctors, and half rat-deer carcasses, this essay will require you to watch several of his videos. It’s painful, but it’s important to be aware of his past credibility and disinformation techniques both to judge his current credibility and to recognize his current disinformation techniques.
Though there are countless examples, the three videos below demonstrate Dr. Makary’s modus operandi. First, he makes things up, conflating his desires with reality. He then accuses public health officials who share accurate information, of making things up. His core message was that everyone else is lying to you, and he repeated it over and over again for years on end.
In May 2021, Dr. Rochelle Walensky wisely warned about variants, calling then a “wild card”. However, immediately after being shown this clip, Dr. Makary falsely claimed leaders like her were pushing for “total absolute risk elimination”. He further claimed that public health leaders were trying to “manipulate the public” by hiding the good news “that most of the country is at herd immunity”. They were “dishonest,” he said.
In this video from July 2021, just before the Delta variant arrived, he said that one of the “biggest failures of our medical leadership has been ignoring natural immunity,” which he said provided “decades of protection against severe illness” and was “probably lifelong”.
In this video from 2023, Dr. Makary claimed that Kennedy was censored because he posted “true stories” of children killed by the COVID vaccine. “Asking questions is not allowed,” Dr. Makary said.
Dr. Makary was wrong about all this, of course. In reality, we did not have herd immunity in May 2021, immunity is not lifelong, and Kennedy stole pictures of unvaccinated, deceased children for his anti-vaccine propaganda against the wishes of their grieving parents.
Although Dr. Makary lacks the integrity to revisit his preposterous predictions, his pattern is clear. He speaks with complete confidence as he makes serious, yet false, allegations about public health officials. His goal is not to communicate science and evidence in a neutral way, but rather to inflame his audience by appealing to their emotions and grievances. It’s all one big performance.
They Suppressed the Data
Though his manipulative techniques were dishonest, they were effective. Dr. Makary’s genuine skill at spreading doubt on TV catapulted him to head the FDA, where he is still performing, still creating a spectacle of accusations to enrage and exploit his audience. Just like he did in 2023, Dr. Makary is again claiming the COVID vaccine killed some children. However, instead of simply presenting the evidence and letting it speak for itself, our FDA leaders are doing what they do best, being dramatic to spread anger and mistrust.
In the video below, Dr. Makary accuses his predecessors of hiding evidence that the COVID vaccine killed children. “These were deaths, the data for which, accrued in the prior administration. It was not released to the public. We chose to release it”, he said. That’s a very serious accusation, and it’s not a one-time occurrence for Dr. Makary. He is making the rounds with these allegations.
“They suppressed the data. It was never made public… we have a moral obligation to make that information public“, he said in another overtly political video, in which he blasted the Biden administration and vaccine mandates.
In this video, Dr. Makary said that the previous FDA leaders who disagreed with him about his conclusions regarding the COVID vaccine were “paid by big pharma.”
Dr. Makary also claimed that doctors who even suggested the COVID vaccine might have fatal side effects were victims of a “censorship machine.” “This is like Chinese Communist Party kind of stuff… if you disagree, you could just disappear,” he said. As a reminder, Dr. Makary was a media celebrity who now runs the FDA.
They called Prasad’s analysis “a huge exaggeration.” Some of the deaths were rated as “‘possibly related,’ which is very far” from a causal relationship, the person said.
Previously, when there was evidence of COVID vaccine harms, apolitical, trustworthy FDA scientists simply presented it in a peer-reviewed journal. There was no drama, just data, and therefore no controversy. Everyone trusted it.
In contrast, our current FDA leaders are once again producing theater to trigger emotions. It’s what they do best. Via podcasts, Fox News interviews, and “leaked” memos, they are teasing “profound revelations” about dead children and hidden data, complete with dastardly villains and brave heroes, namely themselves. We need to be clear about the function of this theater. First, it is a form of COVID revisionism, allowing doctors who were wrong about herd immunity, natural immunity, the vaccines being a perfect panacea, and pretty much everything else to absurdly claim their pandemic vision has been vindicated. We were right about the horrors of vaccine mandates all along!
Second, these tragedies of dead children will provide our medical establishment with a much-needed distraction from their gross incompetence, at least until the next wave of purges and righteous resignations. Every moment spent relitigating vaccine battles from 2021 is a moment not spent discussing their failure to contain measles, pertussis, and botulism in baby formula today.
Finally, these salacious allegations will provide a pretext to spread doubt and mistrust about all vaccines. If they lied about the COVID vaccine, what else are they hiding? Anti-vaxxers have long fantasized about “secret hidden data” (remember the “CDC whistleblower” pseudoscandal), and the leaders of the FDA will soon deliver it to them. The hepatitis B vaccine was just the first causality in their war, and the FDA leaders are all in on Kennedy’s anti-vaccine agenda.
We also need to get ahead of their game, or at least catch up to their running start. When the FDA leaders eventually release their evidence, likely with great fanfare and pageantry, people will parse over every detail like religious scholars. However, the FDA leaders have already poisoned any possibility of a fair discussion with their dramatic roll-out. This was their intention, of course.
No matter the quality of their evidence, quacks and sycophants will eagerly amplify their claims of a cover-up. They’ve already declared the FDA leaders have proved their case beyond a doubt. They don’t need to see the evidence. Their blind support for government doctors is baked in.
In contrast, those us who actually care about evidence will try to keep an open mind, but we will justifiably question anything our FDA leaders produce. We know their abysmal track record. We know they’ve obsessed over this side effect for years and have previously made false claims of COVID-vaccine fatalities. We know they have to please their boss, Kennedy. We know how they minimize children killed and injured by viruses- “breathless coverage of rare anecdotes of MIS-C and death in kids.” We know they don’t care about the vaccine’s clear benefits, even RCTs. We know they start with their policy opinions and work backwards to retrofit the “evidence.” We don’t have to play dumb and pretend these are neutral, unbiased, reliable actors. We are also aware that FDA insiders, the anonymous people who deserve our trust, vigorously disagree with how their leadership has spun these 10 cases thus far, calling it a “huge exaggeration.”
We have many reasons to be skeptical of our medical establishment. Unfortunately, anyone who expresses the slightest doubt of them, even by simply asking to see evidence, is invariably dismissed as part of the cover-up, on the payroll of Big Pharma, and a censor who wants to make brave doctors disappear.
Dr. Makary’s theatrics made sure of that.
