In the first video, Dr. Makary blames Dr. Fauci for both the consequences and origins of a virus he repeatedly told people not to care about- It’s Time to Stop Living in Fear and Don’t Buy the Fearmongering. Dr. Makary’s ramblings are boilerplate MAHA groupthink, and his exact words could have oozed from the mouths of 10,000 different influencers and cranks who mindlessly bash Dr. Fauci to signal in-group loyalty.

But wait, there’s more! Dr. Makary saw a movie, Thank You, Dr. Fauci, that explores a “non-traditional narrative” to conclude that HIV “may very well have come from a lab.” This, of course, is false.
Lyme Came from a Lab
It gets more interesting yet. Although there’s evidence that Lyme is an ancient disease, in this video, Dr. Makary speaks of mad scientists, biowarfare, Nazi war criminal doctors, and half rat-deer mutants. “I can tell you with a high degree of probability. It came from Lab 257 on Plum Island just outside of Connecticut,” he says.
Although Dr. Makary desperately wants everyone to know he is a brave, free-thinker, able to see the world objectively and without bias, in reality his brain is cooked. He has no critical thinking skills and treats propaganda movies and books as the gospel truth. He’ll fall for anything as long as it confirms his priors and allows him to claim he is wiser than 99% of his peers.
It’s not really a mystery why the FDA is crumbling under the watch of a man whose highest priority is to go on podcasts, letting strangers know he is special and superior to other doctors.
